F/O Herbert Reuben Farb attended Air Observer's Course at No. 1 A.O.S. Malton Ont. from May 24, 1942 - September 11, 1942. He took Advanced Flying Training at No.1 A.F.U Wigtown, Scotland from April 20, 1943 - May 17, 1943. He commenced Operational Training at #22 O.T.U. Wellsbourne Mount Ford, Warwickshire May 19, 1943 - July 17, 1943 whne he was transferred to #22 O.T.U Gaydon and completed the course August 18, 1943. The assessment notes he was "Above Average".
He started at Conversion Unit #1664 Croft Durham on September 22, 1943 then joined 428 Squadron at Middleton St. George, Co. Durham October 24, 1943. January 1944 he was tranferred to 405 Vancouver (Pathfinder) Squadron. On January 30th, 1944 his plane was attacked by a German ME 110 Nightfighter and he was injured in the arm and back. Despite his injuries he continued his duties to navigate the aircraft back to England where it crash landed at the base. Farb and Pilot Biden were awarded the DFC for their actions that evening. March 11th, 1944 he returned to 428 Squadron.

Promoted Flight Lieutenant, 11 September 1944. Repatriated 23 July 1945; released 14 September 1945."
