Description
U.S. HB-7 Headband ANB-H-1 Headset Receiver B173120. Tan leather covered HB-7 adjustable metal headbands, with a ANB-H-1 black bakelite element clipped into it. The receivers have a soft black rubber ear covering with MC-162-A on the outer edges, along with CN 64 on one ear piece and CN13 on the other. Equipped with an insulated 80 inch black rubber/brown braided communication cord, connected to a black JK 26 extension jack, which is attached to a red PL354 connector jack and a black PL-55 connector plug. Small metal band is crimped around and attached to this cord, stamped with HS33. Outer headband is stamped in red with SC935A.

The headphones used in WWII American Aircraft are divided into two categories- signal Corps and US Navy. Signal Corps versions provided to the AAC/AAF for "non helmet use in WWII aircraft were either high impedance, HS-23 (4000 ohms) to low impedance, HS-33 (600 ohms) The HB-7 headband was the AAC standard before the war, the shift from high impedance to low impedance earphones was simply a change from R-14 to ANB-H-1 elements that clipped onto the headband. Unfortunately, so many high impedance headsets were already fielded that a plug -in transformer impedance adapter was introduced to make the transition. Low impedance headphones were more reliable and less expensive to make.
