Description
Leather Flying Helmet Type C, unwired, Circa 1943. The helmet has a brown leather chin strap secured with a BENNETT'S friction fastener. At each ear there are black rubber cups to house the external radio receivers (the receivers are not present). Below the rubber cups the leather is stamped with, A (crown) M 22C/451. Three metal press studs for the attachment of a Type E* oxygen mask. (also not present) This modification allows the Type G oxygen mask to be used. The helmet is lined with chamois and has padded ear cups to reduce external noise. A set of two leather tabs with brown press studs positioned on either side of the rubber ear cups, and a single buckle leather strap at the rear, are positioned to secure to the helmet. Inside the helmet beneath the right ear cushion, he name Carr has been hand printed in black ink. There is a brown velveteen sweat absorbing panel at the brow and at the ends of the chinstraps.
