Description
Brown leather flying helmet made by Karl Ort, York, Penna. A single metal buckle chinstrap with the name, "B. KEIHLOR" stamped in gold print on the chinstrap. Two small brown leather vertical straps have been stitched onto the left and right sides of the back of the helmet for the purpose of securing goggles(not present), and secured by a single brown painted metal press stud. The helmet is fitted with a black rubber pair of gosport tubes. Both earpieces are stamped on the outer side with, " Rajah 066424" on one side and "Bloomfield N.J. U.S.A." on the opposite. The helmet is lined with yellow chamois with a fabric label which reads,"KARL ORT, YORK, PENNA"

KARL ORT AVIATION MERCHANDISE CATALOG, 1941....The war hadn't quite started yet when Karl Ort printed this 1941 catalog 8x12" catalog of about 25 pages featuring hundreds of pilot accessories including rings, I.D. bracelets, ladies wing brooches, white leather flying helmets, leather flying jackets, aeronautical emblems and insignia...hundreds of photos...multi-color....great early aviation insignia. Karl Ort - York, Penna Any kid who was interested in aviation in the late 30s will have a déjà vu when he reads that headline! Karl Ort was the source for all kinds of aviation items in those years.His catalog was an encyclopedia of aviation "stuff," His little catalog, priced at a dime -"send a dime to Karl Ort" - was a door to dreams for airplane kids. And a lot of people bought stuff from Karl. Hisso engines sold for $97 each. Karl had clothing, and kids all wanted to buy helmets and goggles, but money was tight. Today a Karl Ort catalog sells for between $40 and $75, depending on condition.
