GERMAN MILITARY LUFTWAFFE ARMKOMPASS AK39. The aircrew wrist compass model AK39 was used for orientation after bailing out or after forced landings in unknown areas. The circular casement is of black plastic with a flat back. Cream-colored plastic rim with clear face. The dial-plate is transparent with a gradate dial with needle and directions in a black and red colour. The dial is free floating on a needle in the case filled with alcohol. The back is cream coloured and can be moved inside the lower rim to make the front dial transparent. Black leather strap with metal single claw buckle. The back of the compass reads: AK 39, FI 23235-1. Serial Number, 3843377.
