Group Captain Sir Douglas Robert Steuart Bader CBE, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar, FRAeS, DL, was a WWII ace who had lost both his legs in an accident prior to WWII. Leading the Tangmere wing flying out of RAF Tangmere, the squadrons of spitfires would make several successful fighter sweeps over Europe.
