Description cut out and adhered to rear surface reads: The Jet Age: This is Canada's C102 Avro Jetliner - the first jet-powered transport to fly in the Western hemisphere. With test pilots Jimmy Orrell and Don Rogers, the gleaming ship lifted from Malton Airport on August 10th, 1949. This Canadian aircraft nearly won the laurels as the world's first jet air-liner, for England's De Havilland comet had flown successfully a scant two weeks before. The Avro Jetliner brought Canada many Jet Age firsts. Among them was the first Jet Transport Air Mail flight in history, when on April 18th. 1950, pilot don Rogers, co-pilot Michael Cooper-Slipper and flight engineer Bill Baker flew the sleek aircraft from Toronto to New York with a cargo of mail in 59 minutes.
