Description
Item is a slide rule calculating device called a load adjuster. It is used for the calculating of the centre of gravity and load when cargo is being loaded onto an aircraft and so that the load is evenly distributed so it does not affect the flight and handling characteristics of an aircraft. This particular load adjuster is for the Douglas A-26 Invader B and D models. All of the calculating information is on the front of the artifact and the layout of the aircraft divided into zones on the back. Also has "Property of U.S. Government" on the back left side along with the manufacturer, Cox and Stevens Aircraft Corp, Mineola, NY. Storage case is has Load Adjuster, Property of U.S. Government stamped in gold letters down the front and a five digit number (85104) on the loop of the opening flap at the top of the case and A-26 B and D lettered on the top of the flap. A removable card is stitched into the back of the case with sections for model, serial no and assigned to, none have been filled out. "See AN-01-1B-40 for basic weight and index" is also printed on the card.
