Ted Argue took his initial flight training at Mount Hope in 1940 when he was 18 years old. By the time he was 19, he was flying in South East England with 403 Squadron flying Spitfires out of North Weald in 11 Group of fighter command. In mid April 1942, Ted was shot down over Abbeville, France. Though badly injured he survived his bailout from 26,000 feet and spent a considerable time in a German Luftwaffe hospital in St. Omer before being sent to a POW camp. Due to his injuries, he was considered non-combatant and in 1943 was returned to Canada on one of the last Prisoner of War exchanges in the west during WWII.
