Provenance
The first ration books "Ration book number one" were issued to residents of Hamilton in August 1942. The first coupons printed in red were for sugar, and each coupon would buy two week's supply. The second coupons were green for tea-coffee and should also buy two week's supply, and not included in book for children under 12 years of age.
Ration Book 2 was issued in February 1943, along with a separate ration book for gasoline for motorists at the Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo Railway depot.
