JOIN THE ATS
Description
An original colour lithograph recruitment poster to encourage young women to join the Auxiliary Territorial Services (ATS). Join the ATS, or the 'Blonde Bombshell' was one of the first Army posters designed by the Abram Games. 10,000 of these recruiting posters were printed in 1941, however, the poster was later recalled after only five weeks. This was due to a heated Parliamentary debate headed by Thelma Cazalet-Keir MP, she referred to the poster as the 'Glamour Girl' and further stated "It is not the kind of poster that would encourage mothers to send their girls into the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS). It's more like a beauty product advertisement."
