Learned to Fly With Wrights Hamilton, March 19 (Staff)-Royden Foley, 66, veteran of two wars who learned to fly with the Wright brothers, died at his home today. Born in St. John, N.B., he trained in New York and after 1 graduation studied airmanshio with Wilbur and Orville Wright at Mineola Field. He joined the Royal Flying Corps in 1916 and served with 1 No. 241 Squadron on naval reconnaissance. On his return to Canada, he joined the Royal Canadian Auxiliary Air Force, and served with No. 19 Bomber Squadron in Hamilton. With the outbreak of the Second World War, he organized recruiting in the Windsor area and later served in Ottawa and at the Jericho Beach seaplane station at Vancouver. When the British Commonwealth flying training scheme was organized he was assigned to the elementary school at Malton with the rank of wing commander. He was a member of the Church of St. Thomas. Besides his wife, the former Kathleen Obridge, he leaves one son, Paul, of Burlington.
