Description
Shell Extractor used for removing shells from an ammunition belt. It was found by the donor (Mr. Down) on November 14, 1944 in the Kennerleigh Woods, England. late at night he heard a loud crash and looked out his bedroom window to see the sky ablaze. He took the family dog towards the crash site where he came upon 2 burning Halifax bombers. The RCAF bombers were on return from a raid over Germany when they lost communication with each other. Thinking the rear aircraft had ditched, the front aircraft turned back to see what had happened and the two planes collided. Sadly, two brothers killed in the crash, one on each aircraft. Normally this type of instrument would not have ben found inside an aircraft, but used by the ground crew when armouring.
