Description

Typed account of the Battle of Berlin January 30th, 1944 and experience of Herbert Farb's crew attacked by a ME 110 Nightfighter on the Lancaster Herbert Reuben Farb was navigating. At the time of this event he was serving as part of 405 Squadron RCAF. He was wounded in the back during the attack but continued to direct the damaged aircraft back to England. The aircraft landed in the grass near the runway using the open bomb doors like skids. The emergency top hatch of the aircraft was used to get the crew out and the wounded were admitted to the hospital. Herbert Reuben Farb was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions in this battle.
